Exhibition Stand Fit-out: Dismountable Shelves Machined on CNC

Participating in a trade show is always a logistical challenge. Recently, Alcyde was challenged by a marketing agency specializing in manga licenses (One Piece, etc.) to design and manufacture their display furniture.

The specifications were complex: the client needed tall shelves to maximize visibility, but these had to be easy to assemble, disassemble, and store perfectly on the transport trolley used by the team to navigate the crowded aisles of the show.

The Choice of Material: Black Film-Faced Birch Plywood

To highlight highly colorful pop-culture products, we opted for Black Film-Faced Birch Plywood. This technical material is a must at Alcyde for several reasons:

• Premium Aesthetic: Its matte or satin black surface offers a striking contrast that brings out the displayed products, while the edge reveals the characteristic plies of birch for an industrial touch.

• Extreme Robustness: The phenolic surface film perfectly resists scratches, rubbing, and impacts, a significant criterion for furniture intended to be handled and transported from show to show.

The Ingenuity of Machining: Tool-less Assembly

To meet the constraint of quick assembly and disassembly, our design office banned screws and complex hardware.

Thanks to the millimeter precision of our Computer Numerical Control (CNC) milling machines, we machined structural interlocking systems. The panels fit into each other via perfectly calibrated notches. Assembly is done in a few minutes on the stand, without any tools, while guaranteeing total rigidity once the shelf is erected to its full height.

Logistical Optimization: The Shelf that makes itself small

The real feat lies in the disassembly phase. The entire structure was thought out and dimensioned right from the 3D design so that, once the panels are stacked "flat", the overall footprint exactly matches the size of the client's logistical transport trolley.

Thus, at the end of the show, the large shelves disappear to form a compact "pack", easily strapped and maneuverable by a single person to the truck.
